The question that ought to be on everyone’s mind today is the proverbial “fart in the elevator” question that ex-President Donald Trump articulated yesterday about the arrest of Columbia pro-Hamas protesters:
“I wonder if what’s going to happen to them will be anything comparable to what happened to J6?
It’s indistinguishable, really. Take a look here. Damage, injuries and a president who, by his silence, encouraged more damage and violence.
Of course, The Washington Post doesn’t like the idea of comparing the two. It inserted this into its latest reporting:
By contrast, many Trump supporters on Jan. 6 violently assaulted police officers and ransacked the Capitol, leading to five deaths and hundreds of injuries.
Did the person who wrote and edited that into the story do so with a straight face? Are they watching the violence on campuses? The pushing back on police officers? The destruction of property? The holding hostage of a janitor? The blatant harassment of Jewish students? The call for genocide and the destruction of Israel?
Look, liberal political leaders — led by Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden — built up the protest on J6 into something else. They wanted it to be an insurrection. And, they wanted it orchestrated by President Trump.
They got their wish. And now the Hamas wing of the Democratic Party has whipped up a J6 of their own. And the president, if we’re going to consistent, egged it on by his silence.
Be careful what you wish for, Mrs. Pelosi, Mr. Schumer and Mr. Biden. It’s about to come back and bite you in the arse.
Well, duh
Initial reports out of California on the state’s $20-an-hour minimum wage law for fast food restaurants is, if I may be so bold as to say, one small fries short of a Happy Meal. Economists warned lawmakers, but in Sacrament form is always more important than substance. And, if Gov. Gavin Newsom does for the economy what he’s done for the homeless in the Golden State …
This report lays it out:
California’s fast-food minimum wage hike has been in effect for just one month, and the consequences are proving to be fewer hours and potentially fewer jobs for workers.
Pollo West Corporation, the largest franchisee of El Pollo Loco restaurants in California, has said that its franchises went from profitable to losing money overnight when the fast-food wage hike went into effect. It also said that the franchises have reduced worker hours by 10%. Meanwhile, the restaurants had raised prices in February to prepare for the wage hike, leading to a 3% decline in business.
In total, fast food prices have gone up in California by 10% since September, a larger increase than in any other state. Restaurants have already passed those prices on to consumers, as was expected, and are cutting hours and adding kiosks. Fewer hours for employees means less money, fewer sales to consumers means less business, which means fewer hours for employees, and automated kiosks mean a reduced need for employees, which means fewer hours (or jobs) for employees.
In 1981
When Raiders of the Lost Arc came out in 1981, the average price of a movie ticket was about three bucks. I saw the flick again on the big screen last night. Ticket price was $5 (not bad for some 40 years of inflation). But the burger I dined on at the theater before the movie cost $12-plus. Not sure what a theater burger cost in 1981, but Google says a Big Mac cost 34 cents.
Now you know another stray fact should you need it for you next dinner party or church coffee hour.
BTW, Raiders remains a good watch on the big screen. Not so much on teevee, IMHO. Here’s an informative blurb, should you care to read more.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is now considered one of the greatest films ever made and has had a lasting impact on popular culture, spawning a host of imitators across several media and inspiring other filmmakers. The United States Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry in 1999. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the first entry in what became the Indiana Jones franchise, which includes four more films—Temple of Doom (1984), Last Crusade (1989), Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), and Dial of Destiny(2023)—a television series, video games, comic books, novels, theme park attractions, and toys.
I don't think there is a Hamas wing of the Democratic Party. I do think Dems are more compassionate to the death and starvation of Palestinians than Republicans who seem to have no problem with death and starvation of the Palestinians who may not approve of Hamas, but can not easily escape their hideous grip and control. Innocent children for example. In any event, it looks like genocide and nobody truly likes that. Find a better way.
