The office for this morning’s Properly Subversive is Grounds on Second, a funky-dunky coffee shop in the Garden District of Scottsdale. They serve Mythic Goat coffee and a level-above cuisine. If you’re in the area, give it a try. Highly recommended.

Blame Only Hamas

I’m a big fan of trying to see the other side of any given issue. It’s what I do for a living. But some issues have no other side.

The plight of the Palestinians is one such example.

Palestinians chose Hamas as their elected government. Over generations, Hamas created a jihad state that taught hate for Israel and the Jews living there. Acts of terrorism became patriotism. It culminated with the brutal attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Innocent people were murdered. Hostages were taken.

Israel responded in force, rooting out Hamas leaders and, in the process, leveling Gaza. What’s left of Hamas continues to taunt Israel by refusing to release the remaining hostages. Last week, Hamas leaders released a horrifying video showing emaciated hostage Evyatar David digging his own grave.

Hamas continues to make it difficult for Israel and the world to bring relief to the people in Gaza.

If you could remove one player from the current picture to make the plight of the Palestinian people better — short- and long-term — who would that player be?

Hamas, without doubt.

Look, if I’m missing something, I’m happy to listen. But right now, today, I can’t find the “other side” in this world tragedy.
